Suffolk County Police issued an alert for people involved in an altercation in Smithtown on Sunday, June 7 during protests following the police-related death of George Floyd in Minnesota.

During the event, two protesters reported being struck and attacked, Suffolk County Police said.

Investigators are also seeking video or photos of the incident from nearby businesses or other protesters who may have caught it on camera.

During recent Black Lives Matter demonstrations in Smithtown, protesters and counter-protesters have clashed, with many reporting injuries and other altercations.

According to reports, some were attacked with bats and other weapons during otherwise peaceful demonstrations.

There have been dozens of mostly peaceful protests on Long Island since Floyd’s death, including several this week. Protesters were back on the streets on Tuesday, June 9, but the protest was wholly peaceful, with demonstrators shouting rallying cries at the Smithtown Train Station on Redwood Lane.
